TRISTAN TIPS
(You too can score 82,000,000 and still get a good night's
rest)
People who dismiss Tristan after a few plays haven't
scratched the surface. It helps to have real live pinball
machine experience of the obsessive sort. You will recognize
Tristan's impressive simulation as the work of fellow pinball
freaks.
Here are moves that will extend play and kick your gong.
TAKING THE PLUNGE
When starting play, notice sometimes how the ball is willing
to hit all three Extra Ball drop targets and land in the
kicker? This happens when the plunger is released about 3/4
down. Practice.
Use the space-bar nudge a lot when coming through the top
alleys. This gets a lazy ball excited.
GET THAT EXTRA BALL
When the ball is in the right-side kickout, poise yourself
for left flipper reflex. Develop a backhand flip that will
send the ball through the left-side scoring lane.
Usually the ball bounces off the entry gate then falls
through the third alley. BUT! A space-bar nudge the moment
the ball hits the gate will put the ball through the
Extra Ball lane.
Also, suppose the ball has good speed coming down the right
flipper's gutter. It bounces lightly on the flipper's heel.
The moment it bounces, a flip will backhand it through the
Extra Ball lane.
NAILING THE TOP KICKER AND ENVIRONS
If a ball is slowly rolling down a flipper alley, flipping it
the moment it touches the flipper's heel sends it straight
up. Sort of a pinching action. Or you can capture the ball,
let it come to rest in the V, then flip. Not 100% but worth
the effort.
This shot is handy. The ball can hit the three kicker
drops; it can land in the kicker; it often drops into the
scoring lane (esp if a second ball is in the kicker, which
triggers the splendid multi-ball play); it might attack the
Extra Ball drop targets.
LIGHT MAGIC TIPS
Do not try to hit Light Magic drop targets with the right
flipper. This is the most common cause of ball loss down the
middle.
If the left gutter is lit, the plunger will pop the ball out.
A nudge at the moment the plunger plunges sometimes causes
the ball to drop two or three Magic targets.
Got anything I missed?
